This week Greer welcomed the Southeastern U.S. Ohara Chapter of Ikebana for their multi-day spring seminar at the Cannon Centre. Attendees gathered from across the southeast to continue their studies of the beautiful art form of Japanese flower arranging.

They selected Greer as the host city because of its proximity to @gspairport and the availability of dining, shopping, and other activities outside of class time.

The students share their love of Ikebana by raising awareness of the art form through teaching and participating in exhibitions throughout southeast.

It was designed with the most up to date equipment at the time and switched from the magneto to the battery system. Cables were wired directly to this location which removed many of the unsightly wires that ran up and down Trade Street.

To make a call, you would first remove the phone from the receiver, which would notify the operator that you needed to make a call. This was an upgrade from previously needing to turn the crank to get central. The operator would then connect you to your preferred contact.

Mayor B. A. Bennett turned the switch on at 9:45pm on a Saturday evening in September 1927 where numerous telephone officials, prominent business men, and telephone operators were present.

The Greer Station Holiday Window Contest starts this Friday, December 1 during the Tree Lighting Ceremony! Stroll around Downtown Greer and enjoy the festive displays at participating businesses while you wait for Santa to arrive at Greer City Park to light the Christmas Tree.

Vote for your favorite display at the link in our bio from Friday, December 6 through Sunday, December 15.

Voting enters you for a chance to win a $50.00 gift card to a Greer Station business!

Fan Favorite and Judge’s Choice winners will be announced the week of December 16.
